Going Virtual in a RISKY Challenge

For many students, a successful transition from school to their chosen career depends on their ability to take what they’ve learned from their coursework and apply it to real-life situations. The Professional Risk Managers’ International Association (PRMIA) believes this is such a vital skill, they have created an internationally renowned Risk Management Challenge based on applying risk

Today’s blog post is written by Veer Alakshendra, Education Technical Evangelist on the Student Competition team at MathWorks. In this blog he talks about how to model and simulate an electric vehicle using MATLAB and 亚搏国际网页.

Introduction

Modeling is a way to create a virtual representation of a real-world system that includes software and hardware.  It is valuable for formula student testing conditions that might be difficult to reproduce with hardware prototypes alone, especially in the early phase of the design process when hardware may not be available.

To model the electric vehicle, we will use the physical modeling approach, which is a way of modeling and simulating systems that consist of real physical components. It employs a physical network approach, where Simscape blocks correspond to physical elements, such

MathWorks Math Modeling (M3) Challenge is a contest for high school juniors and seniors. The challenge has been around since 2006 and has been open to student participants in the US, but this year we are excited to share that it’s expanding to also include sixth form students in England and Wales. The challenge is organized by SIAM – Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics and allows teams to work on a real-world problem in a 14-hour window of time with additional resource constraints, to give students a glimpse of the type of problems professional mathematicians encounter in industry.

The M3 Challenge offers students a transformative high school experience and a chance to win thousands of dollars in scholarships. Students use mathematical expertise, research, and brainstorming to evaluate data and build a solution to interesting current world issues. Last year’s problem

Today we are talking to Manas R Das from Whirlpool Global Technology & Engineering Center. Manas studied Systems & Control Engineering at IIT Bombay, and graduated in 2019.

What did you learn in the various projects you took up during your time at university?

This real-life problem solving is awesome for students. Because as students we will enter the workforce with significant experience in the areas of research, logical reasoning, team cooperation, and project management.

Why did you choose to work on various projects apart from your academic work?

Projects encouraged me to delve further into a subject instead of just recalling quizzes, tests, or exams. Experiment is equivalent to experience. Each time I did a project, succeed or fail, that project provided me a new experience.

Today we are talking to Kailash Nagarajan from Siemens Digital Industries Software. Kailash was very active in co-curricular activities at his time at Amrita University (2015 – 2019) and also was a founding member of the Robotics Club.

What did you learn in the co-curricular activities during your time at university?

MATLAB just made my work easier. In my projects, I used it majorly for modeling and analyzing systems and control techniques.

Why did you choose to start the robotics club?

I have been always curious to learn new skills and always had a orientation towards robotics even before joining my undergraduate institute.  In fact, I won the Regional Indian Robotics Olympiad in my higher secondary school days. This was due to the right guidance and mentorship of my teachers in my early school
